Assistant Professor (F/M) in the Digital Twin Team

Scope of duties for the position being recruited for:
- conducting scientific research in the fields of environmental remote sensing and geoinformatics;
- publication of research results at recognized international conferences (e.g., from the CORE A/A* list) and in scientific journals included in the JCR database;
- active participation in research and research-and-development projects;
- initiating and participating in the preparation of research grant proposals (national and international);
- the application of the results of scientific research or development work in practice;
- disseminating scientific achievements and actively participating in the scientific life of the international community;
- improving their academic and professional skills;
- academic guidance and substantive support for junior members of the research team.
Qualifications required for the position:
- at least a doctoral degree in the field of forestry;
- documented research achievements (including publications since 2020) in the fields of remote sensing of the natural environment, geoinformatics, Earth sciences, and forestry at recognized international scientific conferences or in journals listed in the JCR;
- practical knowledge of advanced statistical analysis and machine learning algorithms as applied to environmental spatial data;
- practical knowledge of R and/or Python, including packages such as tidyverse, caret, sf, terra, lidR, lasR, rstac, pandas, numpy, geopandas, and rasterio;
- knowledge of PostGIS spatial databases and experience performing computations in a supercomputing environment (e.g., HPC / PLGrid) or a cloud environment (e.g., AWS);
- practical knowledge of GIS software (QGIS, ArcMap) and tools for analyzing 3D data and point clouds (CloudCompare, Meshlab, Terrasolid suite);
- practical experience in planning and collecting field data in natural environments, including the operation of terrestrial laser scanners (TLS) and GNSS receivers;
- experience working on and carrying out tasks in research or research and development projects;
- experience in securing computing grants and conducting computations on supercomputers;
- experience in preparing grant proposals or managing projects (e.g., NCN PRELUDIUM, OPUS, SONATA);
- fluency in Polish;
- English proficiency at a minimum of B2 level;
Required documents:
- A resume or CV detailing your academic and professional experience, including your ORCID number;
- a scan or copy of the doctoral degree certificate;
- list of scholarly achievements (publications, bibliometric indicators, conference presentations);
- proof of internships, participation in research projects, awards, or other documented achievements;
- an abstract of no more than 3,500 characters (1 A4 page) containing concise information about the candidate’s research interests, research achievements to date, and personal research goals in the context of the group’s work;
- a statement confirming fluency in Polish and proficiency in English at a minimum B2 level (with diplomas or certificates attached, if applicable);
- a statement confirming full civil rights;
- a statement regarding the absence of a criminal record and disciplinary liability, prepared in accordance with the template attached to the announcement;
- A statement of consent to the processing by the IDEAS Research Institute of personal data contained in the submitted documents for the purpose of conducting the competitive selection process, in accordance with the Act of May 10, 2018, on the Protection of Personal Data (Journal of Laws of 2019, item 1781) and Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council (EU) 2016/679 of April 27, 2016, on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (General Data Protection Regulation) (Official Journal of the EU L 119 of May 4, 2016, p. 1).

Procedure for Conducting the Competition
- The Director of the Institute appoints a Selection Committee to conduct the competition. The Selection Committee conducts a formal review of the applications based on the documents submitted by the candidates. In justified cases, the Committee may request a candidate to correct any formal deficiencies within a specified time limit. Applications that do not meet the formal requirements will not be subject to further evaluation after the deadline for rectifying them has passed without action. Candidates whose applications receive a positive formal evaluation will undergo a substantive evaluation, which may take the form of an interview combined with a presentation of their academic achievements. The interview may take place in person or via electronic means of communication. Candidates will be informed of the date and format of the interview well in advance. The Selection Committee prepares a report on the competition proceedings and submits it to the Director of the Institute. The Director publishes the results of the competition on the Institute’s website.
- The contest is announced as of 7.09.2026 by [year], with the decision and announcement of the results by [date] 07.10.2026 The selection of a candidate through the competitive selection process does not constitute an obligation on the part of the Institute to enter into an employment relationship. The decision regarding employment is made by the Director of the Institute.
