Scope of duties for the position being recruited for:
- The successful candidate will have the opportunity to prepare a doctoral dissertation in computer science, in the field of computational systems biology. The position is associated with the interdisciplinary research project EdgeCR, carried out at the IDEAS Research Institute in collaboration with the Faculty of Science, Technology, and Medicine at the University of Luxembourg.
- The project involves the development of new, scalable computational methods for identifying effective targets and control strategies for cellular reprogramming and transdifferentiation processes. The results will be experimentally verified by partners from the University of Luxembourg.
- The project will involve working with biological data, creating and analyzing computational models of gene regulatory networks, and developing scalable algorithms based on deep learning.
- The selected candidate will work as a fellow/student/doctoral candidate in the Medical Image Analysis Team, led by Dr. Andrzej Mizera, as part of the OPUS 26 LAP grant (project number: 2023/51/I/ST6/02864).
Requirements:
- currently pursuing a degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, computational systems biology, bioinformatics, or a related field;
- strong programming skills, particularly proficiency in Python;
- knowledge of basic concepts in statistics, machine learning, and deep learning;
- Basic knowledge of biology related to gene regulatory networks or signaling pathways would be an added asset;
- Previous participation in a research project or co-authorship of a scientific publication will be an added advantage;
- openness to conducting interdisciplinary research, particularly an interest in research in the field of biology;
- commitment and the ability to think critically;
- excellent command of spoken and written English;
- independence, a high level of motivation, commitment, and the ability to work as part of a team;
- the ability to effectively manage tasks and meet project deadlines;
Terms of Employment:
- Employment starting October 1, 2026 (or as individually agreed);
- a scholarship awarded for a fixed term—1 year;
- a monthly stipend of 5,000 PLN;
- flexible working hours under a hybrid work model;
- conducting research as part of an experienced research team;

- The IDEAS Research Institute (IB IDEAS) is a state-run research and scientific institution operating under the Act on Research Institutes and a regulation of the Council of Ministers. - The competition for a research fellowship will be conducted in accordance with the Regulations on the Awarding of Research Fellowships in Research Projects Funded by the National Science Center (Appendix to NCN Council Resolution No. 124/2022 of December 1, 2022 and Resolution No. 50/2023 of May 11, 2023).
- Contest Results: Submitted applications will be reviewed for compliance with formal requirements and substantive criteria. Selected candidates will be invited to participate in the recruitment process (conducted online), which will include, among other things, an interview. Based on the ranking list, the candidate with the highest number of points will be recommended for the doctoral position. If that candidate declines the offer, the Committee will recommend the next person on the ranking list. Candidates will be notified of the competition results by email immediately after the competition is concluded.
