Scope of duties for the position being recruited for:
- As a member of the team, you will have the opportunity to work in a team led by Dr. Bartłomiej Twardowski, whose research focuses on the self-adaptation of artificial neural networks and continuous machine learning.
- Design, implementation, and evaluation of self-adaptive methods and continuous learning—in particular as part of the ongoing NCN SONATA project;
- Developing and implementing techniques that enable autonomous machines to adapt to dynamically changing environmental conditions;
- Implementation of methods that take into account computing resource constraints—parameter/energy efficiency;
- Participation in doctoral school courses (if applicable) and research visits;
- Reporting results at conferences and through scientific articles;
Requirements:
- enrollment as a student in an engineering, master’s, or doctoral program in Computer Science or a related field;
- knowledge of deep learning;
- intermediate-level proficiency in spoken and written English, sufficient to present research findings at international conferences, communicate effectively, and read and write academic papers;
- Strong programming skills in Python and proficiency in one of the deep learning libraries (PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX);
- Preferred: experience in research projects involving deep learning;
- Preferred: documented research activity (participation in a research project funded by the National Science Center (NCN), the National Center for Research and Innovation (NCBIR), the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP), or the European Research Council (ERC); co-authorship of publications at CORE A/A* conferences or in journals on the Philadelphia List);
Terms of Employment:
- Employment starting October 1, 2026 (or as individually agreed);
- 6-month commitment period (with the option to extend to 16 months);
- a monthly stipend of 5,000 PLN;
- flexible working hours under a hybrid work model;
- conducting research as part of an experienced research team;
- participation in academic conferences;

- The IDEAS Research Institute (IB IDEAS) is a state-run research and scientific institution operating under the Act on Research Institutes and a regulation of the Council of Ministers. The goal of IB IDEAS is to develop and apply advanced technologies—in particular artificial intelligence—in key areas of security, defense, the economy, and public administration. - The competition for research scholarships will be conducted in accordance with the Regulations on the Awarding of Research Scholarships in Research Projects Funded by the National Science Center (Appendix to NCN Council Resolution No. 124/2022 dated December 1, 2022, and May 11, 2023).
- Contest Results: Submitted applications will be reviewed for both formal and substantive requirements. Selected candidates will be invited to participate in the recruitment process (conducted online), which will include, among other things, an interview. Based on the ranking list, the candidate with the highest score will be recommended for the doctoral position. If that candidate declines the offer, the Committee will recommend the next person on the ranking list. Candidates will be notified of the competition results by email immediately after the competition is concluded. A prerequisite for receiving the scholarship is that the candidate attain the status of a doctoral student at the Doctoral School.
